National Book Tokens Newcomer of the Year
This award is given to new bookshops based on their first full year of National Book Tokens sales and redemptions, both of which are a measure of how well they are engaging with local booklovers.

Congratulations to One More Chapter in Nottinghamshire!
One More Chapter – an independent bookshop at the heart of Radcliffe-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire – has been named the National Book Tokens Newcomer of the Year for 2026.
Opened in March 2025, One More Chapter has quickly become a vibrant community hub, blending a cosy, old library feel with a modern, welcoming ethos. The shop offers a carefully curated range of books for all ages, from children's and young adult titles to fiction, fantasy, and non-fiction. Alongside this, it hosts book clubs, author talks, children's activities, and creative workshops, championing local authors, artists, and charities while encouraging connection through shared stories.
The National Book Tokens Newcomer of the Year award is given to new bookshops based, among other things, on their first full year of National Book Tokens sales and redemptions – a measure of how well they are engaging with local booklovers. One More Chapter's strong early performance in these areas helped it secure the award.
Owner Charlotte King and her team have won a trophy as well as a luxury champagne, wine and food hamper to share – congratulations!
Previous winners of the award include Daydreams Bookshop in Milngavie, Suddenly on Sheaf Street in Daventry; The Book Stop in St Helen's, Merseyside; The Ivybridge Bookshop in Devon; The Portobello Bookshop in Edinburgh; Darling Reads in West Yorkshire, and Maldon Books in Essex.
National Book Tokens are the only gift cards that can be bought and spent in bookshops across the UK and Ireland. In 2026, our gift cards will help deliver nearly 2 million bookshop visits – driving profitable sales as well as customer acquisition and engagement. National Book Tokens celebrate bookshops everywhere and the invaluable role they play in local communities through our support of industry campaigns, including Independent Bookshop Week, Bookshop Day, and Irish Book Week.
"Our Newcomer of the Year award celebrates independent bookshops that show, from the very beginning, just how powerful and important these spaces can be – and One More Chapter does exactly that. From carefully curated book selections to a packed programme of events, Charlotte and her team capture the joy of bookselling at its best. The shop's strong early engagement with customers, illustrated by impressive National Book Tokens sales and redemptions, reflects a genuine commitment to helping readers discover their next perfect read."
- Lisa Bywater, Head of Marketing at National Book Tokens
"Winning National Book Tokens Newcomer Bookshop of the Year feels truly overwhelming in the best possible way. I feel incredibly blessed to be recognised, not just personally, but for the community that has grown around One More Chapter. This shop exists because of the readers, families, authors and supporters who show up every day, and this award belongs to them as much as it does to me."
- Charlotte King, owner of One More Chapter

"It’s been a seriously steep learning curve getting to grips with all things bookselling and we couldn’t have done it without the support and guidance from the wider bookselling community. All the hard work getting the shop set up feels like it’s really starting to pay off, and we are truly honoured to receive this recognition from National Book Tokens."

Newcomer of the Year 2023: The Book Stop's Here, St Helen's
"With the closure of Wardleworths in 2019, we were left in a dire predicament: No bookshop in the town! St Helens has one of the lowest literacy rates in the country and therefore the need to introduce reading for pleasure, especially in children, was great. ‘The Book Stop's Here' is a community benefit society, owned by the community, for the community. We have been commended with social business awards and to receive this from National Book Tokens is simply wonderful recognition, thank you."
